On July 13, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction considered an appeal against the sentence of convicted “accomplices” in the murder of Yaponchik. Murtazi Shadaniya said that he would commit suicide if the judicial panel did not replace the prosecutor, who had previously made offensive statements about them.

The meeting was postponed until September 5th. The reason why the hearing was postponed is the following circumstance: according to the current legislation, a previously convicted citizen with an outstanding criminal record, or who has hidden his criminal past from the court, cannot serve as a juror.

However, during the selection of the jury (the trial took place on October 12, 2021), there was a person previously convicted of committing a particularly serious crime, who accordingly participated in the decision on guilt (conviction). Thus, the trial in the Moscow City Court was held by an illegal jury, which included a “record-breaking bribe-taker.”
