On December 28, in the Vasileostrovsky Court of St. Petersburg, a hearing will take place against the former detective officer of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Vasileostrovsky District, Konstantin Golubev. The trial is approaching a verdict, the detective may receive a long sentence. And all because he agreed to become a “source” for the BAZA publication, which handed him over in a heartbeat. And not only did he pass, but a representative of the publication gave evidence against Golubev, which he later “secured” at the confrontation.

According to the former operative’s lawyers, this testimony is the only evidence that Golbuev passed on “closed” information to third parties. She handed over the source to BAZA, as well as a lot of her informants, in order to avoid troubles with the special services themselves due to the collection of information regarding the employees of the FSB of the Russian Federation who were monitoring Alexei Navalny.

From the court hearings it becomes clear how events unfolded.

The then BAZA employee Mäile Maciulite, by order of management, established relationships with sources in St. Petersburg and in a number of other regions. When the incident with Alexei Navalny occurred, management at the meeting instructed to find the data of the passenger in seat 7F on flight 2614 of S7 Airlines, which was flying from Tomsk to Moscow on August 20, 2020. It was Navalny’s seatmate. Myayle decided to “break through” and turned to a source in St. Petersburg, Konstantin Golubev. He agreed to help and turned to his colleague Roman Gladyshev. The latter made a mistake and first pulled out the passengers of this flight on August 21 from the database. Mäile asked to redo it and pull out fellow travelers on August 20th.

On September 11, she again, on behalf of BAZA management, turned to Golubev, this time asking to cancel all Maria Pevchikh’s flights.

On December 14, an investigation was published that Navalny was secretly accompanied on flights by Russian FSB officers, and already on December 23, Russian FSB officers seized Gladyshev’s phone because he was logging into the system using his password. Gladyshev denied sharing information with outsiders. From the contents of his phone, it became clear that his colleague Golubev asked him to do the “punching”.

He also denied that the information went to third parties. From the opera’s receiver it became clear with whom he was in close contact on the required dates

Counterintelligence officers from Golubev’s messenger contacted Maciulite and asked him to come to St. Petersburg. On February 27, she was taken from the station to a survey, where the journalist voluntarily gave the password for her phone and indicated all BAZA sources known to her. And on February 28, after consultations with the management of BAZA, Maciulite spoke in detail at the second survey about her relationship with Golubev and what exactly she received “breakthroughs” from him.

On March 3, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg, including based on the results of the Macyulite survey, opened criminal case No. 12102400022000056 on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power).

The evidentiary base of the case was consolidated with the help of BAZA, namely not through a survey, but through the interrogation of Maciulite and her confrontation with Golubev.

Golubev’s lawyers say that “in the criminal case there are no screenshots or any other evidence, other than Maciulite’s words, about his involvement in the transfer of personal data to third parties.”

This is the key point. For example, Gladyshev did not pass on information to outsiders and only got away with dismissal.

After this story, the surrender of the agents and the necessary testimony, all questions from the special services to BAZA regarding the situation with Navalny and the search for security officers were dropped. And, apparently, BAZA has a new source.

It was BAZA that was the first and only to report on November 1 that “special services officers identified the breakers who helped Alexei Navalny.” We were talking about Katkov, Zelentsov and Zaitsev.

Considering that the same FSB officers were engaged in the search for the “breakers” in Navalny, they carried out activities against both Golubev and Katkov and Co., it is not difficult to guess from whom BAZA received this information.

PS Maia Maciulite does not currently work at BAZA, but is an employee of RTVI
