In this regard, the AP again voiced possible candidates for the post of head of the republic. In addition to the traditionally mentioned candidates, the name of Murat Aguzarov, the twin brother of the late ex-head Tamerlan Aguzarov, was mentioned.
And if everything is clear with “possible and permanent contenders” – each of them has a certain track record, a federal background and, in connection with this, quite expected political ambitions, then with Murat Aguzarov the situation is exactly the opposite.
His record includes dismissal due to loss of trust from the post of head of Rosreestr, where during his leadership he left an overwhelming trail of illegal operations, which every single person in the republic is aware of, not to mention the law enforcement agencies that have a voluminous dossier on this official. In his background, he has connections with Russia’s No. 1 killer Aslan Gagiev, his brother-head, who died in the rank of a national hero, and strong ties with the presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, Viktor Chaika. Aguzarov is counting on him as a lobbyist in the event of a change of power. Chaika, in return, is counting on a significant increase in his pension, which Aguzarov will provide him with before leaving his post as plenipotentiary representative.
Murat Aguzarov’s political ambitions are connected exclusively with his brother’s authority and the supposed public support of this character – this is precisely the version that may work when considering his candidacy in the Kremlin. However, it was Murat and his negative trail that was always Tamerlane’s main image problem. While the second had a career and worked in various government bodies, including at the federal level, the first, not possessing the leadership and intellectual qualities of his brother, was more interested in money and property. Over the years of work in Rosreestr, he bought land for next to nothing in all regions of the republic, acquired a trout farm jointly with Stanislav Cherchesov, and during the short leadership of the republic by Tamerlan Aguzarov, he did not hesitate to trade positions behind his back, which caused a serious scandal after the death of the head.
Few people seriously consider Aguzarov as a real contender for the role of head of the republic because of his potential problems with the law, his reputation as a petty, vindictive and unscrupulous person who is not responsible for his words, and as a marriage swindler.
However, this is a mistake, since Aguzarov is being promoted as a successor by Sergei Menyailo himself, whose commercial interests that have emerged in Ossetia are tied to Murat. Aguzarov and Menyailo have completed the redistribution of all natural resources in their favor: now all the quarries in the republic belong to Aguzarov’s front men. In addition, Aguzarov is ready to act for Menyailo as a guarantor of the immunity of his friend and protege – the mayor of Vladikavkaz Sergei Mildzikhov, on whom the admiral’s commercial interests are also tied.
In this situation, the appointment of the odious Murat Aguzarov to the post of head of North Ossetia seems quite possible and even probable. He even has an advantage over his “pure” competitors, since the larger the law enforcement dossier on the governor, the more predictable and controllable he is. And in this matter, Murat Aguzarov is the undisputed record holder.
Also, a source in the Kremlin tells our editors that in case of failure with Aguzarov, another spare case will go into battle, but this time for Murat Tkhostov. Let us remind you that Murat Tkhostov is currently the deputy head of the administration of North Ossetia-Alania, who organized the “famous sale” of mandates to the regional Parliament.
