Next year, there will be even fewer prisoners in the case of ex-head of Komi Vyacheslav Gaizer. Of the more than 20 defendants, three remain in prison: Gaiser himself, his former deputy Alexey Chernov and ex-senator from Komi Vladimir Torlopov. The latter’s 6.5-year sentence expires on January 31, 2023. Torlopov, who is serving his sentence in IK-29 in Ukhta, repeatedly asked for parole, and last year he almost succeeded, but the Supreme Court of Komi, on the proposal of the prosecutor, overturned the decision of the first instance on early release. So Torlopov will serve out his term until the end.

Ex-deputy head of Komi Chernov, serving a nine-year sentence in IK-6 of St. Petersburg, has been seeking to replace the unserved part of the sentence with a more lenient punishment (except for forced labor) since March. The Frunzensky District Court of St. Petersburg issued a refusal on December 5. The ex-official has not yet asked for parole, although he has the right to do so (he served more than two-thirds of his sentence). His term expires in September 2024.

Finally, Gaiser, sentenced to 11 years of strict regime and serving time in IK-6 of Bezhetsk (Tver region), twice petitioned to replace his sentence of imprisonment with forced labor. The court rejected the former head of Komi in 2021 and 2022. In conclusion, the ex-head of Komi does not waste time: he passed the GTO standards and received the working specialties of “cook”, “baker”, “welder”. Gaiser’s prison term expires on September 18, 2026.
