Miracles happen to the judge of the Kuntsevsky court, Evgenia Demina, who, after 2 years of hearings, announced the verdict to lawyer Sergei Budanov. She sentenced him to 5 years for attempted fraud in a case where the victim is the Moscow government minister for external relations, Sergei Cheremin. Immediately after this, Demina’s career took off and she is already a judge of the Moscow City Court. There, the Moscow City Court is considering an appeal against Budanov’s sentence.
On March 9, a meeting was held at which Budanov and his defense attorney challenged the judiciary due to suspicion of possible “influence” on the judiciary by the injured Minister Cheremin.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 16.

Earlier, Demina admitted that Budanov had committed fraud on the part of the latter, demanding that Cheremin recover $1 million from Cheremin in favor of the creditors of Goldenberg LLC. The creditors of this LLC are, in addition to Budanov, also the Federal Tax Service of Russia, the Housing and Communal Services Department of the same Moscow Government, Atomstroyexport, and the Irish Golden Barley Ltd, as well as a number of smaller lenders.

The nature of the million dollars itself, around which the dispute flared up, is also interesting. Cheremin loaned it to Goldenberg LLC from his personal account, and the return came there with good interest. True, the LLC returned the money while already in bankruptcy, which means Cheremin received extraordinary satisfaction, and the payment of an increased percentage in favor of a high-ranking official raises questions.

All attempts by Budanov to point out the ordered nature of the criminal case, to present correspondence certified by experts between lawyer Cheremin and the investigator in the case, Alexei Popov, and with the minister himself (seized during the investigation of another criminal case against the beneficiary of Goldenberg LLC, I.B. Gitlin) were rejected by Judge Demina. The court also ignored evidence of friendly relations between Cheremin and Gitlin, the fact that the names of Cheremin’s common-law wife and the beneficiary of the Irish Golden Barley LTD (Elena Soboleva) coincided.
