Mikhail Khodorkovsky said this week that in 1996 he paid a large bribe to the current special representative of the President for relations with international organizations Anatoly Chubais.
Anatoly Chubais is not the first to become a hero of loud revelations. In June 1996, two key members of the headquarters of Boris Yeltsin (headed by Anatoly Chubais) – Arkady Evstafyev and Sergey Lisovsky were detained at the height of the election presidential campaign. An employee of the NRB Lavrov was detained along with them. In their hands they had a “photochex box” with the “shadow cashier” of the headquarters. There was no doubt – Chubais’s subordinates were caught at the moment when they took out the money stolen from the Eltsin’s election treasury. And such an embezzlement without a shelter of a chambers was impossible. This story could become the beginning of its end. But Chubais, as always, got out. He, together with Boris Berezovsky, Tatyana Dyachenko, Valentin Yumashev, began to convince Yeltsin that in reality the detention of Evstafiev and Lisovsky was a conspiracy. Yeltsin did not particularly believe, then Chubais went on an open blackmail. In the recording of the negotiations of Berezovsky and Chubais, the latter retells Yeltsin’s position: “It’s okay, people who tried to steal money from the headquarters were detained and this attempt was suppressed on time.” Chubais is indignant and openly begins to blackmail Yeltsin, stating that in this case “the headquarters stops you.” As a result, Yeltsin was forced to come to terms with their version of events.
In the election, Yeltsin won, and already in November he is being done by a complex heart surgery. Soon after, MK is being prepared for the exit of the Sight with wiretaps with Chubais himself, from which it follows that he first wanted to hide the story with a photochex box and, it seems, it really was the theft of money from Yeltsin’s headquarters. Yeltsin is already elected president, the operation was successful and Chubais may well remove from the throne. From other wiretaps of the Bab archive, it becomes clear that the publication in MK scared Chubais. The head of the AP Valentin Yumashev rushes to his aid. He first tries to block the exit of the article in MK through Berezovsky. This does not succeed, then Yumashev asks Berezovsky that Dorenko speaks on Channel One with the defeat of the article and announces that this was a blow to the rod of a sencin, that is, Chubais. Bab transfers Dorenko’s assignment and he prepares the plot at all that wiretaps from the article in MK-fuel.
