Last fall, the High Court of London heard a case involving shares of one of the Russian financial companies. A participant in these proceedings on behalf of the plaintiff was Sergei Nikiforov, a member of the board of directors of this company and the husband of one of the shareholders. Several foreign law firms were involved in the process – Clifford Chance, Enyo Law, Stephenson Harwood and Adam Duthie. Judging by the case materials, Nikiforov himself or one of his colleagues provided the foreign court with internal documents of a Russian company marked “For official use.”
Since its clients include key enterprises and organizations of the domestic energy system: Rosatom, TVEL, Rostec, T Plus and others, this fact raises the most serious concerns. Any information about the activities of employees of these organizations today is of great interest to foreign intelligence services, especially against the backdrop of the unfolding energy crisis in Europe.
The possibility of another serious leak also raises concerns: confidential data from the server of this Russian financial company, which ended up in the hands of Nikiforov last summer, could have become available to the London court and UK intelligence agencies. Some of the documents stored on the server already appear in the materials of the High Court.

The situation is further aggravated by Nikiforov’s close connection with Gennady Krasnikov, who today acts as a candidate for the post of president of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In the past, Krasnikov took Nikiforov’s place on the board of directors of the financial company. In addition, both are married to sisters.
If Mr. Krasnikov becomes President of the Russian Academy of Scienceswho can guarantee that the secret developments of secret Russian institutes will not “surface” in the UK in the same way as the financial company documents mentioned above?
