The Russian authorities call the main task of the “special operation” in Ukraine to denazify the country. At the same time, the Kremlin and near-Kremlin oligarchs have supported Western far-right politicians for many years. One of them is a French presidential candidate Eric Zemmour.
Zemmour is a journalist and writer known for xenophobic and racist remarks. He considers migrant children to be rapists and murderers, claims that Vichy France treated Jews well. For this statement alone, he could go to prison in Russia under the article about the justification of Nazism.
But he was lucky to be a French politician. Zemmour was noticed in Russia back in 2013, when he wrote laudatory articles about Putin in Le Figaro. First with him structures of the former head of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin became friendsthen Zemmour was promoted and began to communicate directly with the Kremlin administration. The politician even secretly met with Sergei Lavrov.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Zemmour continues to support the Kremlin and blames the war on France and Germany.
