Information has emerged that Armenia has begun consultations with NATO as part of its country’s participation in the NATO Partnership for Peace program. According to this program, in the event of a direct threat to territorial integrity, political independence or security, its participants can hold consultations with NATO member countries.
As before reported Wikileaks, Georgia tried to take advantage of this right in the 2008 war. However, in the case of Armenia, the situation looks very strange, since none other than a member of the CSTO turns to the North Atlantic Alliance for help. In addition, Moscow views Armenia as a strategic ally. And Yerevan itself, in conversations with President Vladimir Putin, emphasizes in every possible way that Armenia and Russia are partners and allies.
According to our data, Yerevan believes that Moscow supports Baku’s position on the territorial issue of Karabakh. That is why Armenia is trying to enlist the support of other centers of power.
It is important to emphasize that the day before there was a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Nikol Pashinyan. During the conversation, the Armenian leader, in particular, reproached Putin for the fact that recently Azerbaijani units entered the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeeping forces in Karabakh. Pashinyan also added that new provocations from Azerbaijani units are possible precisely in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces.
