In the Rostov region, investigators, customs officers and businessmen may be involved in the theft of counterfeit cigarettes worth more than 50 million rubles.

On June 13, materials on this fact were already received for verification by the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Rostov Region.

The story of counterfeit tobacco began back in October last year. Then local investigator Velichko was investigating a criminal case of illegal acquisition and storage of unlabeled tobacco products worth almost 50 million rubles. All tobacco involved in the case was confiscated from the suspects. Since such a quantity of counterfeit goods needed to be stored somewhere, the cigarettes were taken to the Rostov customs warehouse in the city of Aksai, at the address: Aksaisky 13-A.

The tobacco lay in the warehouse until April of this year, when the customs management got tired of it and they demanded that tobacco products be taken away, because according to the law they should not have been stored there in the first place. On June 30, investigator Velichko prepared a petition for the destruction of tobacco, having coordinated this with his superior, Lieutenant Colonel Serderov. The court and assistant prosecutor Pegov granted the petition on the same day. Then the tobacco was allegedly handed over for disposal to the city of Bataysk – to the company DON – POLIMERYUG LLC. On June 6, they drew up an act on the destruction of tobacco for 49 million 367 thousand rubles.

However, the investigation claims that the decision to destroy material evidence should have been agreed upon with the Investigative Directorate for the region and the city Investigative Committee, but this was not done. In addition, tobacco was to be stored and destroyed in the Rosimushchestvo technical department of the Rostov region.

Investigators are now looking into why the tobacco was stored and destroyed illegally, and whether it was destroyed at all, or perhaps sold on the black market.
