According to preliminary information, on September 3, 2022, when climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in the Ust-Kamchatsky district of the Kamchatka Territory, a group of tourists who arrived from 7 regions of Russia, consisting of 10 people and two guides of the Novosibirsk travel company, at an altitude of about 4,150 meters, did not less than 5 climbers died. In the following days, the death of 4 more people was reported.
As part of the investigation of a criminal case, an investigative team was organized from among investigators for particularly important cases, forensic investigators from the Investigation Department, as well as a forensic investigator from the Main Directorate of Forensic Science (Forensic Center) of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
Investigators from the Investigative Committee carried out a visit and inspection of the place from which the group of climbers began their ascent, and confiscated the necessary things and objects. Full personal data of tourists has been established, and whenever possible, their relatives are interviewed. For these purposes, instructions have been sent to the investigative departments of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation at their place of residence. As well as instructions to the criminal investigation authorities of the Kamchatka Territory in order to establish their placement on the territory of the Kamchatka Territory. Electronic storage media are inspected.
Currently, on behalf of the investigator, colleagues from the investigative department in the Novosibirsk region are carrying out a complex of investigative actions: search, seizure of documentation in travel agency Extreme Time LLC. The documents will subsequently be examined by investigators. Investigators from the Russian Investigative Committee are conducting investigative actions with the director of a travel agency. The activities of the company and its employees are also studied.
TFR investigators have done a lot of work to identify and interrogate as witnesses persons involved in the delivery of climbers, both to the territory of the Kamchatka Territory and to the foot of the volcano.
