In the first six months of 2022, Sber prevented 452 fraud attempts aimed at clients or the bank itself. Also, with the help of bank employees, 233 such crimes were solved, for which 140 violators were prosecuted. The total amount of damage that was prevented is 250 million rubles. According to the bank, fraudsters most often tried to commit crimes in bank branches using fake documents. However, in 90% of cases they failed to accomplish their plans. In the remaining 10% of cases, the criminals were detained as soon as possible.

For example, as the bank shared, not long ago a criminal group, using fictitious documents, tried to steal more than 2 million rubles from the account of one of the bank’s clients, taking advantage of the fact that he was currently abroad. However, the operation was not successful – the theft was prevented thanks to Sber’s fraud monitoring system, as well as the operational work of the bank’s security department employees.

“Quite often, older people, especially those without relatives, as well as socially vulnerable citizens become targets of fraudsters’ attacks. Criminals take advantage of their defenselessness and easily gain their trust. Solving such crimes is not easy: victims often do not remember faces and therefore cannot describe the scammers. I would like to emphasize that any crime against our clients or the bank will always be solved, and the perpetrators will receive a well-deserved punishment. Sberbank security officers are doing everything to ensure that any attacks by criminals on the bank are repelled, and clients’ funds remain safe and sound,” said Stanislav Kuznetsov, deputy board of Sberbank.
