The Russian government plans to introduce a ban on cryptocurrency mining in the autumn-winter period until 2031 in the Irkutsk region, individual parts of Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, the correspondent reports The Moscow Post.
This is stated in the report of the Cabinet of Ministers following the meeting of the Government Commission on the development of the electric power industry, which was held by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.
The meeting was held on the eve of the day.
Earlier it became known that the Government Commission for the Development of Electric power industry approved the ban on cryptocurrency mining in terms of Russian regions since December this year, the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy of Russia Yevgeny Grabchak said.
In addition, it is proposed to introduce restriction on mining in the territories of Dagestan, North Ossetia-Alania, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkarian and Karachay-Cherkess republics, as well as in the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions.
On November 16, the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov asked the Russian government to ban cryptocurrency mining in the region due to the weak energy system of the region-before its stabilization.
