Former vice-governors of the Kemerovo region Alexey Ivanov and Alexander Danilchenko received six and five and a half years in a general regime colony, respectively, for extortion. The former deputy head of the department for investigating particularly important cases of the regional department of the Investigative Committee, Sergei Kryukov, and the ex-investigator of the same department, Artemy Shevelev, were each given six years in prison. The former head of the regional administration department, Elena Troitskaya, will spend five and a half years in the colony, and the former head of the legal department of West Siberian Coal Company LLC, Gennady Vernigor, will spend five years and two months. The eighth defendant in the case, former coal magnate, co-founder of the Sibuglemet holding Alexander Shchukin, died in July.
In November 2016, the Investigative Committee opened a case regarding an attempted raider seizure of the Inskoy coal mine in Kuzbass. Law enforcement officers made high-profile arrests among the elites of the Kemerovo region in November 2016. Eight people were detained. As follows from the indictment, they are accused of extorting 513 shares of Razrez Inskoy JSC with a nominal value of 256.5 thousand rubles.
