There is justice!
Exactly 10 years ago, generals Umnov and Abakumov showed “the best officer qualities” by leading the fight against the head of the Main Department of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Mikhail Sukhodolsky. His commands and orders were ignored by them, and all attempts to restore order were blocked.
On February 9, 2012, it was Sergey Umnov ordered the riot police and SOBR to block the headquarters building and break into Sukhodolsky’s office. He personally took the weapon from him then.
In turn, Ivan Abakumov, who was in the reception area, got into a fight with the head of the personnel department, Andrei Bilay, who was Sukhodolsky’s appointee.
The generals not only acted on the unspoken command of the then Minister of Internal Affairs Rashid Nurgaliev, but also pursued purely their own goals: Sukhodolsky prevented them from “living” by breaking their usual patterns.
The real war, for example, revolved around the figure of the deputy head of the UEBiPK Alexei Brilliantov, whom Sukhodolsky unsuccessfully tried to remove from his post, contrary to the wishes of Umnov (they were allegedly connected by family relations). There were many questions regarding other personnel appointments, for which Umnov was responsible as chairman of the regional certification commission.
The work of the rear unit, commanded by Abakumov, caused no less criticism. In addition, it turned out that his wife was driving around the city in a Rolls-Royce, owned by one of the St. Petersburg millionaires, and an active riot police officer was assigned as the driver to the general’s wife.
After Sukhodolsky’s resignation, the dismissed riot police driver was reinstated in service, Aleksey Brilliantov became the head of the Economic Security and Combating Committee, and Umnov and Abakumov received full indulgence and carte blanche as a reward for their faithful service. But, as it turned out, not forever, but only for 10 years.
Well, you have to pay for everything in this life: especially for meanness.
