Hard times of Governor Drozdenko. Our colleagues report regular searches of Leningrad region managers. This time, the FSB, the police and the regional Investigative Committee took out documents from the administration of the richest, Vsevolozhsk district. At the same time, they were very interested in Deputy Head of Administration Nikolai Karetkin, who unexpectedly resigned one day a week before the security forces’ visit and completely, as they say, disappeared from the radar. The Cheka-OGPU will reveal the intrigue.
So, active work on the command of Governor Drozdenko has been going on for a good year. One by one, regional officials are arrested, the security forces rise higher and higher. Thus, in the spring, former construction vice-governor Mikhail Moskvin, a figure quite close to Drozdenko, was arrested. But bad luck – Moskvin, who is sitting in a pre-trial detention center, showed tenacity worthy of a real hockey player, and has not yet given the testimony against the governor that law enforcement officers needed. It’s the same story with other detained government officials – they are ready to “sing”, but did not occupy high enough positions to tell something useful about the governor himself.
Then the investigation decided to take a different approach, turning its attention to the head of the Vsevolozhsk district administration, Andrei Nizovsky. He is very close to Drozdenko, is part of his family, enjoys complete trust, and among the regional elites it is customary to consider Nizovsky almost the crown prince. Literally a few days after Moskvin, a deputy of the regional Legislative Assembly, Sidorenko, who for many years led the very important Agalatov settlement of the Vsevolozhsk region, was arrested. Sidorenko was hinted at Nizovsky, but it didn’t work here either – he chose to stay in the cell and, as they say, has not been injected to this day. Then the security forces took a different approach, attacking Nizovsky’s deputy on the most corruption-intensive issues: the economy, urban planning and Karetkin’s property. But the trouble is, he was obviously warned and disappeared. It is worth noting that other regional government officials, one by one, resigned on the eve of the searches. That is, someone is obviously working on the side of the security forces, promptly telling the governor’s team where the operatives are looking.
