The funeral of the border guards who died on May 27 in a clash with the Ukrainian DRG at the Zernovo checkpoint in the Suzemsky region will take place in the Bryansk region. Local residents initially reported four dead border guards – among them two local young men from the Suzemsky region. But at a rally in honor of Border Guard Day at the All-Round Defense monument on May 28, it was announced that “six Russian border guards were killed in a clash with the Ukrainian DRG on the border near Zernovo.” Apparently two more died in hospital from their wounds.
The clashes at the Zernovo checkpoint continued from three o’clock in the morning until six o’clock in the morning on May 27. Not a single building in the village of Zernovo was damaged, and there were no civilian casualties or injuries.
The funeral of one of the deceased border guards, Vadim Cherkasov, will be held in the village of Ivot, Dyatkovo district, on May 31. Further information is to be confirmed.
