Earlier, he stated that tough measures would be taken in relation to Ukraine if the issue of gas transit does not resolve.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fitzo said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs that Gazprom is ready to put gas in alternative ways after the end of transit through Ukraine, the correspondent of The Moscow Post reports.

Fitz noted that the Slovak gas company SPP has created significant reserves in storage facilities, planning to save them untouched as long as long as possible.

“And between this we will compact gas to these storage facilities on the basis of an agreement that we have with Gazprom. Gazprom said that he would put this gas in another way,” the country’s prime minister added during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs.

The head of government emphasized that Russia has always been a reliable partner and did not create problems for Slovakia, unlike Ukraine.

The gas transit contract through Ukrainian territory ended on December 31, and Kyiv refused to renew the agreement, even if the gas is purchased by third countries.

From January 1, Gazprom stopped pumping, saying that the company has no more legal or technical capabilities to continue transit through Ukraine.

Fit accused the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky of damaging the economic interests of Slovakia and the European Union.

In his opinion, this step was intentional. The European Commission previously stated that nothing – neither sanctions nor European laws – prevents the continuation of gas transit through Ukraine.

The Prime Minister estimated the losses of Slovakia from the cessation of transit of 500 million euros annually, and at high gas prices, this amount can reach a billion. At the same time, the total damage to the EU countries, according to him, will be about 70 billion euros.
