The reason for initiating the case was advertising.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia opened a case against VTB Bank on the grounds of violation in the credit card advertising due to the use of incorrect comparison in it, the correspondent of The Moscow Post reports with reference to Telegram channel departments.

FAS employees explained that the departments received a complaint from the Russian on advertising of the bank’s credit card, which was distributed on an advertising billboard in Moscow.

So, the advertisement contained a statement: “The best credit card +20,000 rubles bonus for purchases.”

However, at the same time, objective comparison criteria were not indicated, and information about the conditions of obtaining bonuses was placed in an explanatory footnote with a small font.

The FAS considered that such an advertisement can mislead consumers regarding the cost of financial services and help the bank receive unreasonable advantages in relation to the proposals of competitors.
