If at the beginning of the high-profile trial Zhirinovsky and some deputies publicly declared support for one of the most popular members of the party and provided him with legal assistance, then after the death of the LDPR leader, even beautiful words came to naught. According to our information, the new party chairman Slutsky, wholly controlled by the Presidential Administration, is afraid to get involved in Furgal’s business. “The van is a negative for Slutsky,” our source said.
Sergei Furgal has been a member of the LDPR since 2005, headed and financed the Khabarovsk regional branch of the party for two terms, was elected from it to the regional parliament, three times to the State Duma, became governor also from the party, and then repainted the regional and city dumas in the colors of the LDPR: With his rating, Furgal actually made the LDPR the regional party of power.
Without Furgal, the party’s rating has already gone down: in the 2021 State Duma elections in the Far East, the LDPR has noticeably sagged. The reason for this is also the tyranny of Degtyarev, who publicly criticized and “canceled” the ex-governor. Now other party members have turned their backs on Furgal – not a single member of the party was seen at any of the open trials presided over by the notorious Judge Tsoi. In addition, no one from the LDPR leadership or deputies even comments on the numerous violations of Furgal’s right to defense during the hearings.
The ex-governor’s departure from the party is a logical step for him, but for the LDPR this is definitely a minus and a further drop in his rating. Without Zhirinovsky, the future of the party, as experts unanimously say, is vague, and in the absence of new ideas, it would be logical to cling to old yeast, but Slutsky and company are inactive. Perhaps they themselves no longer believe in the viability of the project, which means they see no point in supporting Furgal, who went on hunger strike.
