One of the key points of new restrictions will be a ban directed against the so -called “shadow fleet” involved in the transportation of Russian oil.
As the EUOBSERVER portal previously noted, sanctions can affect up to 149 ships. The final approval of the document is expected on Tuesday, May 20.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron allowed the possibility of additional restrictions on the part of the European Union and the United States if Moscow does not go to a ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine.
In addition, in the American Senate a new package of measures is being prepared in the American Senate, which the authors described as a “destructive” in their effects.
The head of the EU diplomacy Kai Callas previously stated that Brussels plans to coordinate the 17th sanctions round until May 20. According to her, the discussion contains measures regarding the export of Russian oil and gas. At the same time, any decision can only be made with unanimous support of all 27 countries.
Recall that the previous package of sanctions No. 16 was adopted on February 19. It included a ban on the supply of primary aluminum from Russia and adding to the sanctions list of 73 more vessels related to illegal transportation.
