On November 20, 1990, Andrei Chikatilo was arrested – one of the most famous Soviet serial killers. More than 50 women and children were its victims. Before becoming a maniac, he studied in Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, served in the border of the KGB, worked in a boarding school, published in the newspapers:

The brigade investigating the case included fifty experienced detectives. In addition, on the routes of Rostov -Zverevo electric trains, where the dead were discovered in forest belts, and the killers were engaged in the search for 350 to 450 ordinary police workers …
Hundreds of police officers “gathered mushrooms and berries in the vicinity, sat in ambush with night vision instruments, checked everyone who fell into the lens. A blood group was organized in 163 thousand (!) Drivers of personal and state transport. Women-militias guarded by police officers traveled in electric trains-suddenly, as they say, it pecks? Everything that at least somehow attracted attention was checked. More than 200 thousand people were checked for involvement in this crime … Working in this case, detectives identified thousands of people with sexual deviations or shifts in the psyche … The brigade simultaneously revealed more than a thousand crimes (I), including forty murders , 245 rape, robberies, robberies … But the one they hunted for, remained unknown.
The country’s largest specialists who advised the brigade advised to look not among criminal elements, but among the usual part of the population. This move was also prompted by examples of “Stavropol”, “Irkutsk”, “Vitebsk” and other sensational cases of this kind: there were also “prosperous” criminals. They searched for this in Rostov.
And he really seemed normal: at home – a meek man, a family man. Charming, sociable to the extreme, by profession – a philologist. Police officers say: when they watched him, they saw how easily he converges with completely strangers. He went to the electric train, greeted, spoke – around him the crowd was already. And he said goodbye to everyone’s hand. Meanwhile, he has a knife with him, ropes …
Today the maniac is in the KGB prison. Why not in the police?

The trial of Chikatilo began in April 1992. He was sentenced to the highest degree of punishment and shot on February 14, 1994.
