Eyewitnesses described the moment of the explosion so:
“I felt that I was lifted into the air, and then I fell and hit the floor. But I did not lose consciousness, instantly jumped to my feet. We all left the office through the window to the garden, as the doors were littered. Stucked and boards collapsed from the wall. The minister said in a loudly, alarmed voice: “Where is my family? What’s happened?” I say: “Probably a bomb.” From the garden we see that part of the house is destroyed. Everyone who was in the reception was killed or wounded. Sidden in it, the director of the office of the Moscow Governor-General Camerger A.A. Voronina torn his head ”

(Simbir leader of the nobility, Hofmeister V.N. Polivanov, “New Time”, August 13 (26), 1906)

“I sat at the table with the Penza Governor Khvostov, but suddenly something pushed me, and I moved away from the table and moved to the sofa. At this time, an explosion occurred, and I, along with the sofa, was thrown out into the street and there it was covered by the fragments of the building. Khvostov was killed ”

(Prince V.N. Shakhovskaya, “Petersburg newspaper”, August 13 (26) 1906)

The attempt on Stolypin was organized by the Union of Socialist Revolutionaries-Maximalists. Two of the terrorists died during the explosion. The terrorist attack in the country of the Prime Minister occurred in the midst of revolutionary terror-at the beginning of the last century, thousands of gendarmes, police officers, officials, and military were killed. Often, very high -ranking people became victims, including the highest state dignitaries and officers. For example, the day after the attempt on Stolypin, the commander of the Life Guards of the Semenovsky regiment, General Ming, was killed.

On August 19 (September 1), 1906, a decree was issued on the creation of military courts. This cardinal measure was ambiguously perceived in Russian society. Critics pointed out that the “Stolypin ties” were received not only by revolutionaries, but also by those who were convicted by mistake. However, this decree played a large role in stabilizing the situation.

Five years later, Stolypin was killed in Kyiv. In 1913, a monument to the Russian Prime Minister was erected in the city. He stood less than four years and was dismantled after the February Revolution.
