Denis Zubov, the son of Igor Zubov, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who was arrested in Samara, may be involved in oil theft. A source from the Cheka-OGPU said that the younger Zubov’s group felt confident in the region. Confidence was betrayed by the fact that the head of the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Major General Alexander Vinnikov, is a protégé of the deputy federal minister. Igor Zubov traveled to the region to introduce the new chief to the personnel.

Close relationships with high police officials did not help him reach business heights. Now the younger Zubov will be checked for involvement in the theft of oil products. It is assumed that he may be related to the installation of illegal taps into the pipeline.

Earlier, there was already a loud scandal in Samara. In 2019, the Investigative Committee opened a case based on FSB materials under Art. 215.3 (“Unauthorized connection to oil pipelines, oil product pipelines and gas pipelines or rendering them unusable”), Art. 210 (“Organization of a criminal community”) and Art. 158 (“Theft”) of the Criminal Code. Then the attackers organized the supply of a large amount of chlorine-containing compounds to the Druzhba oil pipeline. Low-quality oil disabled eight tanks at the Lopatino oil storage facility in the Volzhsky district of the Samara region, and then entered the main oil pipeline system.
