The investigation group, which investigated a certain number of citizenships provided from 2008 to 2018, urged the authorities to find out whether promoters and service providers were the necessary list of events to find out whether the funds of their customers were received from illegal activities.
The group, headed by the head of the Commission on Securities and Exchange Demetrra Kalogir, studied 12 dossiers with the participation of 42 persons belonging to the high -risk group. The report states that out of 42 cases, all, with the exception of two concerning seven citizenships, corresponded to the formal criteria of the government.
⚠️ A number of people received citizenship under a false pretext or hiding important information from the authorities. For them, the group recommended that the prosecutor be deprived of citizenship and transfer them to investigate the possible commission of criminal offenses.
🛂 The Committee also recommended that another 12 people (three dossiers), looking for the authorities of his countries.
🔍 Experts noted that five dossiers belong to a high -risk group, and the appropriate persons should be constantly monitored.
The statement of the presidential office says that the report is published, as President Nicos Anastasiadis previously promised.
Edited parts, with the exception of information disclosing personal data, will be disclosed after the completion of the criminal investigation, added in the application.
The board of the Disie party welcomed this report as a “positive event”, since it will help the police and the General Prosecutor’s Office to begin the investigation.
But the opposition party Akel said that the report is far from corresponding to the public appetite to a thorough investigation or distribution of responsibility “on those who organized, created and used the industry sales of gold passports.”
Akel added: “The main problem of the Kalogiro report is all those issues that are not considered in it. This group, appointed by the Anastasiadis administration after international protest against Cyprus, was instructed to study all cases of naturalization from 2008 to 2018.
“As a result, 12 cases regarding about 40 people were examined. Note that the government of Anastasiadis issued more than 6,000 Cyprus passports. ”
When compiling a report, a group of three people used information from several sources: units for combating Mokas money laundering; police (with access to databases of Interpol and Europol); and World-Check, a database of politically significant persons and persons and high-risk organizations used throughout the world to help in identifying and managing financial, normative and reputation risks.
Partner Paragon Advice Group, Alexander Zakharov, does not exclude that the Cogirus report can become the basis for further negotiations of the European Commission with Cyprus to study more cases of citizenship for investment after the EU regulator of formal procedures against gold passports in the EU.
