Changing the confidentiality policy of the WhatsApp messenger accelerated the increase in the number of Telegram users, said the founder of Telegram Pavel Durov. He stated that against the backdrop of bots migration, they began to edit the WhatsApp page in Wikipedia and distribute rumors about Telegram.
“Apparently, the WhatsApp from Facebook resorted to secret marketing. Recently, the Wikipedia editors discovered several bots who added preferential information for money to the article about WhatsApp in Wikipedia. We also found bots that distribute inaccurate information about Telegram on social networks, ”wrote Mr. Durov in his channel in Telegram. According to him, three myths about the messenger are distributed through the bots: “The source code of Telegram is not open”, “Telegram – Russian” and “Telegram is not encrypted”.
Mr. Durov noted that all Telegram clients have open source code since 2013, and all chats in the messenger have been encrypted from the moment it is launched. Speaking about the reports of Telegram with Russia, he said that the company has no servers or offices in Russia, and the messenger itself was blocked in the country from 2018 to 2020.
