The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, intends to personally appeal to the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov in connection with the court’s acquittal in the case of sexual abuse of children from an orphanage.

In December 2018, the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation of the criminal case against the former director of school No. 565 of the Kirovsky district of St. Petersburg Stanislav Vinogradov, the former deputy director of the orphanage Mikhail Elin, former pupils and pupils of the school Pavel Prikashchikov, Kirill Pokalyuk and Andrey Solovyova. Depending on the role of each, they were accused by the investigation of committing crimes under Art. 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violent acts of a sexual nature). Investigators established 23 facts of the accused committing violent acts against pupils of the orphanage – a center for orphans and children left without parental care “Center for Promotion of Family Education No. 8” in the period from 2002 to 2017.

Despite the collected evidence base, on December 29 of this year, the Kirovsky District Court of St. Petersburg announced an acquittal for five defendants in the criminal case of sexual abuse of children at an orphanage due to the absence of a crime. The defendants were released from custody in the courtroom. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, intends to personally appeal to the Prosecutor General of Russia, noting the need for an early appeal of the acquittal, as well as outlining the principled position of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the criminal case.
