The “Melamed case,” in which several people close to A. Chubais were involved, finally approved Asnis and Partners JSC as a key contractor of Rusnano, enjoying unconditional support at all levels of management. A special curator from the law firm, Ruslan Kozhura, received a permanent pass for unhindered access to the Rusnano building.
Ruslan managed to build relationships with both board members and middle managers of Rusnano – the contract was simply fantastic for the price.
It is important to note one point here – JSC RUSNANO paid for legal services, that is, the funds transferred to the lawyers were not included in the standardized cost of services of LLC Management Company Rusnano. Let us explain: the fact is that A. Chubais and his managers received salaries and remunerations from Management Company Rusnano LLC, the management company of Rusnano OJSC (100% owned by the state). The cost of services was 1.95% of the value of the company’s assets and reached at its peak up to 6 billion rubles per year. These billions were spent by A. Chubais almost uncontrollably. But even here, Chubais and the board of the company reporting to him cheated and financed the costs of lawyers at the expense of Rusnano OJSC, and in fact at the expense of the state. In return, A. Chubais received powerful support: the testimony of all defendants in the criminal cases of Rusnano was carefully prepared by lawyers, any mention of the board and Chubais was excluded from the testimony, the emergence of new cases and the expansion of the list of accused were blocked. This not only made it possible to collapse the “Melamed case” and the “Karana case”, but also closed the possibility of initiating new cases, in particular regarding the Rosnanocapital fund, Plastic-Logic, dubious contracts for current activities, abuses of debt and reporting.
The first questions about the contract arose in the very first week after the dismissal of A. Chubais from the post of chairman of the board of Rusnano: first, the curator of the contract, the head of the legal service V. Kovaleva, was fired, then the lawyers themselves left the wall of Rusnano. As a result, the investigation of the “Melamed case” and the “Karana case” was resumed with a new interrogation of witnesses, new high-profile cases are expected to emerge, A. Chubais, O. Kiselev, D. Pimkin, L. Melamed and Yu. Udaltsov hastily left Russia.
PS However, A. Chubais does not lose touch with Asnis and Partners JSC and recommends it to many of his former associates and friends. For example, clients A.Ya. Asnis became M.A. Abyzov (former deputy of Chubais for RAO UES), rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninki) Sergei Zuev, Andrey Malyshev (former deputy of Chubais for Rusnano).
