At one time, Putin’s classmate at Leningrad State University Nikolai Egorov had so much money that he created his own bank to invest it – OFK-Bank. Egorov, given his status and closeness to Putin, was sure that no one would “dump” him. Imagine the surprise when it turned out that 15 billion rubles had been withdrawn from the bank (counting Egorov’s personal funds). The surprise increased even more when it turned out that the lion’s share of the money went to enterprises controlled by Arkady Rotenberg.
According to the source, Nikolai went to Arkady for an explanation. He was surprised: “Nikolai didn’t know that the bank was yours.” But the money did not return to Egorov.
A member of the Ozero cooperative, Vladimir Yakunin, being the head of Russian Railways, gave contracts worth tens of billions of rubles to the 1520 Group of Companies and a number of other companies, the owners of which, while lining their own pockets, also formed Yakunin’s own pension fund. When Yakunin was expelled from Russian Railways, the monopolist was headed by the Rotenberg protege Belozerov. And all the companies that received contracts also came under the control of Arkady Rotenberg, and his son Igor began to manage them.
According to the source, when Yakunin was surprised to discover that he was deprived of access to his pension fund, he began to attack Alexei Krapivin (the son of the late Andrei Krapivin, Yakunin’s adviser, who built the contracting schemes for Russian Railways). He threw up his hands: “We need to contact Arkady Rotenberg.”
Then the co-owner of 1520, Boris Usherovich, was attacked. The usually helpful Boris was extremely rude to Yakunin: “You yourself know who you need to talk to about this.”
And Yakunin went to bow to Arkady Rotenberg. He was friendly, as he was with Egorov. But the result of the negotiations was the same. Arkady said that in the contracting empire of Russian Railways, inherited after Yakunin, there are financial “holes” for such gigantic sums (between the lines, “be glad that the case was not opened”) and they have to be plugged from different sources (between the lines, “from your pension fund”). But if after the process of “plugging the holes” there is something left, then, of course, Yakunin will have access to it. None left.
The last victim of Arkady Rotenberg was Konstantin Goloshchapov (known as Putin’s massage therapist), who always did not strive for the federal level, but was very good at “sawing” at the level of St. Petersburg. However, unexpectedly, Arkady Rotenberg showed interest in all his assets, and criminal cases with searches emerged. Goloshchapov also lost a significant part of his financial pot. In response to attempts to explain himself, Goloshchapov was told by Rotenberg that he and Yakunin had “screwed up” everything about the Orthodox Church outside the Russian Federation, although they acquired foreign passports and withdrew gigantic funds from the Russian Federation under the pretext of creating schemes in which the world position of the Russian Orthodox Church would be indestructible .
As the Cheka-OGPU already reported, Goloshchapov made a desperate attempt to break through to Putin along with the Holy Fire during the Easter service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. It was Yakunin who organized its delivery.
According to the source, Goloshchapov and Yakunin flew on the same plane. In previous years, and even during the pandemic, Yakunin delivered fire and distributed it along the Procession of the Cross.
A distinctive feature of the Easter service in 2023 was that Yakunin and Goloshchapov were simply not allowed to attend the service while Vladimir Putin was there. They weren’t allowed in with the Holy Fire. All attempts to somehow resolve the situation ended with an explanation that they no longer had access to the first person.
They were allowed to enter the Temple only when Putin left the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. And the distribution of the Holy Fire took place after the service.
