Billionaires from Tatarstan Vadim Maheev and Leonid Baryshev, who own the manufacturer of mayonnaise and Maheev sauces, are accused of deliberate bankruptcy of the largest retail chain of the Republic of Essen. Because of this, hundreds of its suppliers throughout Russia lost billions of rubles for the delivered but not paid products.

The network of more than 120 supermarkets and discounters belonging to Maheev and Baryshev almost completely stopped paying off suppliers back in 2019, having ultimately accumulated several billion rubles of debts. In May 2020, it was declared bankrupt by the claims of companies related to Maheev and Baryshev, in favor of which a fictitious debt was created to control the bankruptcy process. Then it became known that almost all liquid property of the trading network, including supermarkets and land plots under them, was withdrawn from Essen in advance and was owned by another company Maheev and Baryshev, and there is nothing to pay for debts. At the same time, shortly before bankruptcy, the nominal owners of the largest retail network of Tatarstan instead of Maheev and Baryshev became a municipal official from Elabuga and a businessman from the Rostov region.

Thanks to the administrative resource of Maheev and Baryshev (both deputies of the State Council of Tatarstan), the law enforcement agencies of the republic turned on their eyes to what was happening for a year and a half, limiting themselves to formal unsubscribes and refusing to accept the statements of the victims. Against the companies who filed lawsuits in arbitration courts to Essen and won the case, criminal cases of far -fetched prepositions were stamped by republican laws. Due to billions of advertising contracts with Maheev, large media refused to write about this story. However, in the end, due to public resonance and the scale of fraud, the investigation was transferred from Tatarstan to the State Medical University of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee in Moscow.

After the initiation of a criminal case, Maheev and Baryshev were left Russia and observe what was happening from Turkey. Now problems may arise among the patrons of “kings of mayonnaise” from among the corrupt Tatarstan security forces. The victims have a chance to return the money, having achieved the arrest of real estate of the oligarchs and their mayonnaise plants. But here banks – creditors can enter into business, because the property of the companies of Baryshev and Maheeva is already a guarantee of numerous bank loans, and they are unlikely to release it.
