As the Cheka-OGPU learned, the intermediary in the bribery case of the hereditary military Major General Yevgeny Tokarenko entered into a pre-trial deal with the investigation, wrote a confession for two more episodes of bribery and gave evidence incriminating the general and other persons.

Before his arrest, General Tokarenko commanded a division of National Guard troops providing security to the closed administrative-territorial formation of Sarov, where an important Rosatom enterprise is located – the Russian Federal Nuclear Center (RFNC – VNIIEF). This center has recently been involved in a number of corruption scandals that, like the case of General Tokarenko, happened on the eve of Putin’s visit.

According to the materials reviewed by the Cheka-OGPU, Tokarenko is charged with about 20 counts of bribery, which, according to investigators, he received as part of an organized group together with his deputy, the head of the personnel department of the military unit, as well as serviceman Astemir Sonov. According to investigators, the general and his colleagues built a scheme to receive bribes from military personnel for resolving personnel issues, general patronage and connivance in the service.

The amounts of bribes received, according to the military investigation, vary from 30 thousand to 243 thousand rubles. Sonov made a deal with the investigation, gave extensive testimony and received a transfer from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. The arrest of General Tokarenko has been extended until December 3, 2023.
