According to investigators, almost 20 years ago, the then owner of the Cherkizovsky market of the capital, Telman Ismailov, called Russo to the Prague restaurant, where, on the second floor, he was held in the premises by Ismailov’s nephew Zaur Mardanov, as well as Eliyar Damirov, Vladimir Gusakov and Tarkhan Eldukaev, who they took the artist’s mobile phone and beat him. This happened due to Russo’s desire to free himself from the guardianship of his owner Cherkizon and continue his career on his own. Then, in 2006, after Russo’s performance at the Astoria casino, when he got into a car with a security guard, his car was shot at from a Kalashnikov AKS 74 assault rifle. Russo was wounded in the leg.
Damirova and Gusakov were sentenced to prison terms in 2021 for kidnapping an artist, but were released from punishment due to the expired statute of limitations. Last year, the jury of the Moscow City Court found the perpetrator of the attempted murder, Abraham Russo, and his two assistants, who were watching the artist, guilty.
