As the Cheka-OGPU learned, holder of the St. George Cross, IV degree, Grigory Bavykin, drunkenly beat up a homeless man in Lugansk and inserted a tree branch into his anus because he spoke negatively about the Russian military. The victim died from an open blunt abdominal injury with damage to internal organs, complicated by traumatic shock. The incident occurred on October 18, 2022, in the area of ​​the monument to Airmen. Bavykin, at the request of a homeless man, bought him a bottle of vodka and offered to accompany him home. Near the monument, a skirmish occurred between them due to the fact that the victim “began to speak negatively about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation taking part in a special military operation,” follows from Bavykin’s testimony.

“After that, Bavykin beat [бездомного]and before leaving, with the aim of causing physical pain to the victim, and also out of anger, he inserted it into the anus [бездомному] tree branch. Cause death [потерпевшему] didn’t want to. After using physical violence against the victim, he made sure that the latter was alive, and then went to the unit. The next morning, he saw police officers at the scene of the incident, and learned from passers-by that a man’s body had been found. In this regard, after comparing the events, he realized that the dead man was the man he had beaten, and therefore voluntarily turned to the police to confess,” the court’s indictment says.

For causing grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence, Bavykin received seven years of strict regime.
