As the Cheka-OGPU learned, ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ashot Yeghiazaryan was detained at Charles de Gaulle International Airport. He, as it turned out, was wanted by Liechtenstein for money laundering.

As we found out, the arrest took place back in August. When Yeghiazaryan came to check-in at the French airport, border control officers announced to him that he was being detained because he had an international arrest warrant. Yeghiazaryan, who had been living in the United States in recent years, decided that we were talking about a criminal case by Russian security forces, for which he was even sentenced in absentia to seven years, and for which Interpol removed him from the wanted list. However, this turned out to be a “fresh” European warrant issued by Liechtenstein. He was informed about this by the police who arrived at the scene and took the ex-deputy to the police station in the Clichy commune.

According to the source, Yeghiazaryan immediately wrote an application for political asylum and state protection in France.

A European arrest warrant was issued at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Principality of Liechtenstein in the framework of the criminal case 13 UR.2016.77 against Yeghiazaryan, who is accused of money laundering, fraud and disruption of the execution of a judicial act. The warrant specifies 8 episodes of crimes, the punishment for some reaches up to 10 years in prison.

For the last 13 years, Yeghiazaryan has lived in the United States.
