Another shake-up is planned at the top of the Russian Orthodox Church: “inconvenient” clerics are being purged by young, ambitious intriguers. Administrator of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Dionysius may be transferred from Moscow to Krasnodar, while in his place the candidacy of Metropolitan Gregory of Ekaterinodar and Kuban is being considered.

According to sources from the Patriarch’s entourage, the ideologist of this personnel reshuffle is Archimandrite Alexy (Sergei Turikov), who is rapidly gaining political weight in the elite of the Russian Orthodox Church. Instead of a stairway to heaven, he is consistently moving up the career ladder and now occupies the post of personal secretary of the Patriarch. The proximity to His Holiness has thoroughly turned 39-year-old Turikov’s head: behind the backs of the leadership, he is pushing loyal clergy into key positions.
