Another family has been identified, killed by a gang of Orenburg killers, a significant part of which ended up in the ranks of the Wagner PMC. According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, one of the most brutal criminals of the Southern Urals, Viktor Bertholz, was found involved in the disappearance of the 60-year-old head of the construction company Viktor Veselov and her wife Olga. The couple disappeared from their own home 9 years ago – the cottage was not locked, their car was parked in the yard, all valuables were in their places, but there were no documents. In 2014, the Veselovs’ daughter announced a reward of 3 million rubles for information about her parents; since then, the investigation has had no leads.

On January 8, 2023, the court sentenced Bertholz to life imprisonment for numerous murders of entrepreneurs, their children and relatives. Among the victims are businessman Denis Chernov, who was stabbed to death in the courtyard of his house and then tried to be burned in his car; director of the local Gazpromtrans branch Andrey Bakharev, his wife and their personal driver; businessman Sergei Sedykh, found strangled in his own cottage.

A few months after the trial, it became clear that the killer and his accomplices had a trail of other unsolved crimes. It is likely that the murder of the Veselovs is not the only one in which one of the bloodiest groups in the Orenburg region is involved. Interestingly, some of the members of the killer gang went to serve in the ranks of the Wagner PMC. Among them are Viktor Belkin and Ivan Kozachkov. It will be extremely interesting what will happen if it is possible to establish their involvement in the massacre of the Veselov family.
