“Drilled, Herods!”

Part 1

I lasted only a week in the SUS detachment (strict conditions of detention) – this is an absolute record. On the very first evening that I arrived there, one of the key prisoners advised me to take off my jacket about twenty minutes before bedtime, citing the established procedure.

Wearing watches in the zone was banned by law a year ago. Everyone around me was without the top part of their robe, and I went to wash my feet before going to bed without a jacket. A report was immediately drawn up for this “terrible crime.” The SUS prisoners were aware of the immediate prospect of pouring the unwanted Shestun into the prison sewer to the very bottom – PKT (cell-type room), but such speed and such a dubious reason surprised even the experienced ones.

The next step is transfer to the EPKT (single PKT) of Rzhev or Tver, and then to a “krytka” prison (not to be confused with a pre-trial detention center), of which there are only eight in Russia.

Usually they are sent to harsh Vladimir, but sometimes – to Chelyabinsk or Saratov, less often – to Krasnoyarsk.

An additional irritating factor, in addition to publications, is my critical attitude towards the window dressing in IK-6 about universal employment, which I reflected in a conversation with the supervisory prosecutor who arrived to check on my complaints. In SUS, many prisoners are formally employed as garment packers. They even installed a sewing machine there the day before my arrival. Several dozen packers, even in the industrial zone, where the products are at hand, are not even 5% of the time working. Carrying these products a kilometer to the camp, and then lifting them to the 2nd floor of the SUS along a narrow and steep iron staircase just to wrap them with tape is madness.

The head of IK-6, Pavel Motin, has the task of sending prisoners to the front or finding employment, and first of all those with lawsuits. There is not enough intelligence to expand production, so we have to cheat with fake jobs.

Due to a sharp drop in oil and gas revenues and excessive spending on weapons, there is a gigantic hole in the Russian budget. The Ministry of Finance is sequestering treasury expenses, and the only thing that can be cut from the security bloc is the Federal Penitentiary Service, so they are cutting back 57 colonies that were empty after being recruited to the front in order to consolidate the number of prisoners.

The ending follows
