Acting Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Mikhail Evraev risks being involved in a scandal, which will not have the best effect on the results of his elections in September this year. According to media reports, one of Evraev’s subordinates, the head of the Uglich district Anatoly Kuritsyn, is still a defendant in a criminal case related to sexual violence. As follows from the materials of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Yaroslavl region dated March 12, 2018, Kuritsyn committed violent acts of a sexual nature with his subordinate, a young man K., and inflicted characteristic injuries on him. Very detailed this situation then described by a local publication “Rybinskaya Pravda”.
Now Anatoly Kuritsyn is again running for election as head of the district – the most influential Yaroslavl oppositionist, Anatoly Lisitsyn, expectedly joined in lobbying his candidacy and putting pressure on the acting governor. According to a source from the administration of the Yaroslavl region, Mikhail Evraev intends to yield to Lisitsyn’s pressure and reappoint Kuritsyn to the post of head of the Uglich region, regardless of the criminal case and the opinion of residents.
The reason for Evraev’s loyal attitude, despite the obvious political risks (not to mention the moral side of the issue), is the desire to satisfy the old opposition elites of the Yaroslavl region and gain their support in the gubernatorial elections.
