According to the Cheka-OGPU, the reason for the purchase last summer of the notorious Beribit exchange by Sergei Kurchenko was the desire to hide his remaining assets, on the one hand, from the all-seeing eye of sanctions, on the other, from the representatives of the law enforcement agencies looking after him (the history of Kurchenko’s relationship with the head of the Ninth “ Ukrainian” directorate of the DPI FSB General Vladimir Petrovsky has already become the subject of publications by the Cheka-OGPU).

However, the absurd accident that payments for the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Crocus City were made through Beribit (according to the official version), became the reason for a visit to the exchange office by security officials from the FSB (from another Directorate, which Petrovsky could not prevent). As a result, a big public scandal and hundreds of clients being cheated out of tens of millions of rubles.

As a result, the exchange case had to be dealt with by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where the victims sent statements en masse. This is where Sergei Kurchenko’s connections with the first deputy head of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant General of Justice Nikolai Patapeneya came in handy. The head of Kurchenko’s security is now Patapeni’s former subordinate, ex-chief of the 10th department of the investigative unit of the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Anton Pankov. Pankov left the service in 2021 after the accused jumped from the window of the 4th floor of the investigative agency, as well as for corruption reasons. Daria Evmenina, the last wife of Sergei Kurchenko and the head of the law firm “Evmenina and Partners,” took as a partner in the same year 2021 Elena Moskalenko, who was fired in connection with the case of the “Ministry of Internal Affairs generals” (former head of the procedural control department of the Investigative Department (SD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at in which hundreds of thousands of dollars were found in her office and apartment). Moskalenko was transferred to the SD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by Nikolai Patapen from Novosibirsk when he was transferred to the Ministry.

In exchange for the services that Nikolai Patapenya has been providing to Sergei Kurchenko for several years, the businessman acts as the nominal owner of assets – those that the general cannot directly assign to himself. That is why, instead of law enforcement agencies dealing with the collapsed exchange, security forces support the demands of Beribit representatives about the origin of client funds. In this regard, it can be assumed that the injured clients of the Beribit exchange are unlikely to ever receive their funds back.
