According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, almost all members of the board of directors of Yandex and some heads of departments received a residence permit in the United Arab Emirates. Almost immediately after the start of the war, most of the company’s top management moved to Dubai. Today, one of the hubs of the Russian IT giant operates there, but apart from the management of Yandex, there are practically none of the company’s employees in the UAE: they are scattered across Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Serbia.

The active promotion of Yango (Yandex.Taxi operates under this name in a number of foreign markets) in the UAE is associated with obtaining a residence permit. The company even poached managers from local competitors.

In order to show the seriousness of its intentions to develop in the local market, the company launched a large-scale advertising campaign in Dubai. For example, the Yango logo was placed on the famous Burj Khalifa skyscraper during the premiere of Guy Ritchie’s film “Operation Fortune”.

The board of directors also holds all its meetings in Dubai. According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, in the foreseeable future, none of the Yandex management is going to return to Russia from the UAE.

Following the residence permit, part of the company’s top management, including Tigran Khudaverdyan and Daniil Shuleiko, are planning to obtain UAE citizenship.
