The unprecedented generosity of ex-President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov became known in February – the amounts spent on the election campaign were astronomical by the standards of the tiny republic – 400 million rubles.

But the extent of the last cut was, the republic will be able to find out soon – the head of state Alan Gagloev promised deputies to declassify the act of checking the budget execution by auditors of the Accounts Chamber of Russia. Citizens are waiting for investigations and arrests.

The ex-Prosecutor General of South Ossetia, Magomed Bagaev, resigned without a scandal, unlike his predecessor Uruzmag Dzhagaev, who came to the republic in 2016 with baggage from murky affairs, because of which he once left service from the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sochi. Subsequently, he did business in a resort town, became rich, and with these successfully acquired skills began to build a commercial enterprise from the prosecutor’s office. Under Dzhagaev, prosecutors imposed tribute on all entrepreneurs, took large sums for closing criminal cases, and protected cigarette, alcohol and other illegal transit.

Not burdened by strong corruption ties, the former Prosecutor General got involved in several stories with a sadistic plot – the mass beating of prisoners in a pre-trial detention center, which provoked a protest among prisoners with refusal of food, opening of veins, etc., the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili “from heart failure” and death from “withdrawal syndrome” of South Ossetian citizen Inal Dzhabiev. Society stood on its hind legs, parliamentarians posed the question point blank: either President Anatoly Bibilov demolishes the top of the security forces, together with Dzhagaev, or resigns with them. The bloodthirsty bosses were saved as best they could, as a result, the Minister of Internal Affairs still lost his position, the Prosecutor General moved to a new one – advisor to the president. Employees of the riot police and the State Security Service (analogous to the FSO) are traditionally considered the watchdogs of any regime, but from 2017 to 2022 they outdid themselves. Here is a story of actual arm-twisting and brutal pressure, immoral for a Caucasian republic, on the widow and mother of a man who died in the dungeons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who staged a months-long sit-in protest in the city square in front of the presidential administration.

As a result of bacchanalia and disorder among people in uniform, trust in the security agencies was lost, but not forever, says the new Minister of Internal Affairs Valery Gazzaev, who knows from working in the OSB the entire internal kitchen and the dirt that needs to be cleaned – by name. The work in this sense is endless, you need to take shovels. And if the newly appointed people do not work with shovels, the population, prone to protests, will again take up the conditional pitchforks and sweep away the next government. Therefore, every personnel appointment by President Alan Gagloev, as a former security officer and a leader with political experience, must be made with a cool head and clean hands.

For example, the new Secretary of the Security Council of South Ossetia, Anatoly Pliev, a hero of the war in Afghanistan, has the Order of the Red Star, knows not only the specifics of the special services and law enforcement agencies, but also has a vision for their development. But there are several “buts” – in search of unsullied persons, the authorities are trying to look for competent ones among the retired security forces, and Pliev is just from the old class, having already held this position from 2012 to 2017. There is another dubious fact – meetings with Patriarch of Georgia Ilya 2, whose fiery sermons became a trigger for “crusades” against the republic by Georgian nationalists.
