A year ago, Evgeny Zinichev, who at that time was the Minister of Emergency Situations, fell to his death from a cliff at the Kitabo-Oron waterfall (Big Irkindinsky Falls), located on the territory of the Putorana Nature Reserve. He has headed the Ministry of Emergency Situations since May 2018. The official version was announced by the department’s press service: he died during an exercise in Norilsk, trying to save film director Alexander Melnik, who had slipped on the edge of a cliff, and who had come to look for a place to film a documentary. Unofficial – we were admiring the beauty during a picnic at the waterfall, organized by the minister’s entourage, accidentally slipped and together with Melnik fell off the cliff. A year later – on the eve of the sad date – the new minister Alexander Kurenkov decided to reduce the main department of internal security of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the brainchild of Zinichev. Permission from higher power structures was not obtained for this, but the minister began restructuring. It affected 30 people involved in information security. They were transferred to the Department of Information Technology and Communications. Deputy Minister Yatsutsenko remains untouchable. Materials about the abuses of which, collected by the Main Directorate for Security of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, were sent to the FSB. As soon as this happened, at the instigation of the adviser to the Minister of Emergency Situations Daniil Martynov, the reorganization of the special department began.
