A verdict has been handed down in a criminal case involving an attack by North Korean fishermen on Russian border guards

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee was recognized by the court as sufficient to pass a verdict against 12 foreign citizens. Depending on the role of each, they were found guilty of committing crimes under Art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Part 2 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The investigation and the court established that on September 17, 2019, employees of the Border Department of the FSB of Russia for the Primorsky Territory discovered a fishing vessel flying the flag of the DPRK, the crew of which was involved in the illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources (squid). In connection with this, measures were taken to detain him, inspect him and deliver him to the port of Nakhodka, Primorsky Territory. During the inspection activities, foreign sailors, armed with improvised objects and using them as weapons, attacked the border guards who had boarded the ship, and one of the attackers, having taken possession of a service machine gun, fired shots from it.

By a court verdict, one of the defendants in the case was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment, another – 8 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime colony, 10 sailors were sentenced to imprisonment for terms ranging from 4 years to 4 years and 2 months to be served in a penal colony. general regime colonies.

Previously, three more citizens of the DPRK were convicted and sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.
