A source from the Cheka-OGPU spoke about a surge in accidents, one way or another connected with active employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Information passed through internal channels that the heads of regional departments were informed to issue warnings about responsibility for reckless driving and drunk driving.

The last straw was a serious accident in the Vladimir region, where on August 5, the deputy head of the fire supervision department of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Andrei Yakovlev, and his subordinate inspector Evgeniy Zorin crashed on a motorcycle. The lieutenant colonel was sitting in the passenger seat, and the lieutenant was driving – previously, he lost control, as a result of which the bike flew off the road into a ditch. Both have severe fractures of the spine, arms and legs. The fact that police officers were injured became known only two days after the accident – Yakovlev did not admit that he was serving, and Zorin was unconscious.

A tragedy in the Ivanovo region, where on August 2, at approximately 2 a.m., local criminal investigation operative Andrei Nerushev, while driving his personal car, crashed into a tree and died before the ambulance arrived. Where the captain was in such a hurry and whether he had consumed anything before the trip will be revealed by an internal audit.

Another accident near Ivanovo – traffic police inspector Taras Khomenko was riding in his personal car on his day off, and when leaving a minor road he did not let a motorcyclist pass. As a result of the impact, the biker suffered ligament damage and numerous abrasions. The drivers turned out to be sober and, surprisingly, both received fines – the Harley owner for driving without an insurance policy, and the employee for violating traffic rules. It is not yet clear whether the traffic inspector will remain in office.

“Combo” in Domodedovo near Moscow – there, on August 7, a police Lada Priora and a Toyota Prado with LPR license plates collided at an intersection. A criminal investigation officer was driving the car; he was found to be the culprit of the accident because he did not allow the SUV with the 62-year-old driver to pass.
