A source from the Cheka-OGPU spoke about a case of punitive psychiatry in the ranks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The capital’s headquarters is checking information about compulsory treatment in a psychiatric clinic for a metro police officer. 35-year-old junior lieutenant Matveev complained about the doctors of clinic No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who committed him to the PB named after. Gannushkina.

According to the interlocutor, back in July, Matveev’s colleagues sounded the alarm, seeing how he was worried about the discord in the family. They reported to the authorities – they decided to play it safe, because… Suicidal people spoil the statistics. Within a couple of days, Matveev was sent for examination to the Ministry of Internal Affairs clinic. The doctor prescribed sick leave and pills, which the lieutenant decided not to take. After taking a mini-vacation, the policeman returned to duty, albeit with restrictions – carrying weapons and going on daily duty was forbidden. The conditions suited Matveev quite well, but at the next appointment the doctor suddenly decided that Matveev, who was silent and not very cheerful in life, had completely withdrawn into himself and was going to hang himself any day now. The police were led out of the clinic by the orderlies – the poor fellow was urgently taken to a psychiatric hospital. Obviously, Matveev could have stayed there until the end of his days if the doctors at Gannushkina had believed the diagnosis of their colleague from the medical unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Fortunately, the sullen policeman was tested before he was stuffed with Tramodol – after 4 hours, the healthy lieutenant was already free. At the moment, Matveev is on duty, but the employee harbors a grudge against his superiors and the doctor who acted on their orders. Now in the subway department where he works, colleagues look around even more often than before.
