A source from the Cheka-OGPU said that they began to actively recruit for the war in Ukraine not only in the strict regime penal colonies, but also in general regime colonies. In particular, recruitment is now underway at IK-6 in the Tula region. Previously, recruitment was carried out in IK-1 and IK-5 (both strict regime) in the region. According to our data, a total of 500 prisoners in the Tula region wrote an application to become volunteers. Approximately the same number of statements were written in the colonies of the Ryazan region. These are not very good indicators; nevertheless, colonies in these regions are considered relatively comfortable for imprisonment. Another thing is the colonies in Siberia, many of which specialize in the “reforging” of prisoners. There are many more people willing to volunteer there. But all the “records” are being broken by the colonies for former employees – in Mordovia, Nizhny Tagil, Ryazan region, Nizhny Novgorod.
According to the source, usually a conversation with a prisoner is conducted by two people who introduce themselves as employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service. However, there is a suspicion that they actually serve in another department. Prisoners are given a “unique chance” to leave the walls of the colony, go to fight, and return back not to the penal colony, but to a free life. Moreover, it is guaranteed that the criminal record will be expunged. They also talk about the need to protect the Motherland and their children and loved ones.
