A source from the Cheka-OGPU said that the Russian Ministry of Defense is forced to abandon the construction of a high-readiness station for the Voronezh missile attack warning system on the Crimean peninsula. Plans for the construction of a new VZG early warning radar “Voronezh-M” in Crimea are not destined to come true due to the very high possibility of it being hit by Hymers missiles or other types of similar weapons. And Crimea is subjected to such shelling on a constant basis.

The new Voronezh-M radar, which was necessary to detect ballistic missile launches from the Mediterranean Sea and the central part of the Atlantic Ocean, was supposed to operate in the meter range and significantly increase the detection capabilities of the Russian early warning system for missile launches from submarines from the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Back in Soviet times, the Dnepr early warning radar was deployed in Crimea. The decision to build a new station in Crimea on the site of the old Dnepr radar was made several years ago, at the same time the design and development work was carried out and when practically all that remained was to install the canvas, a real threat of destruction of the radar appeared. Despite assurances that air defense is shooting down all objects flying to Crimea, the threat is recognized as very high.

As a result, as the source noted, plans for the construction of new radar stations were recently announced, where there was no longer a place for Voronezh in Crimea.
