Earlier, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the construction of a large transport hub and the reconstruction of Kalanchevskaya station. The artery will provide passengers with “warm feet” by connecting train and metro stations with comfortable passages, and a high-speed train will depart from there to St. Petersburg. According to the interlocutor, the changes should not affect commercial premises, but given the improvement in their position due to the proximity to the new station, internal redistribution cannot be avoided.
“They also said that the architectural appearance would not be damaged, but during the work the Kalanchevsky Bridge by architect Shchusev was already damaged. No one can guarantee that the warehouses will not be demolished and a shopping center will not be built there. The fire very conveniently coincides with possible goals: to kick out the tenants, get insurance – as far as I know, the contracts state that tenants insure warehouses in favor of the owners, and then raise the issue of the proximity of a new strategic facility to dangerous warehouses. After the decision is enforced, the price of the burnt facility will be a bargain and new and old businessmen will be able to buy it out and build.”
The already predetermined fate of the facility is supported by the fact that, given the opportunity available to the owner, a large subsidiary of Russian Railways, PJSC TransContainer, no one invested in the maintenance of the warehouses.
