A source from the Cheka-OGPU reported that the former chief road worker of the LPR, Evgeny Levterov, was detained in Moscow. The system for monitoring wanted persons recognized the portrait of a fugitive functionary as he entered the entrance of one of the houses on Varshavskoe Highway. City cameras have been catching wanted suspects for a long time, something Levterev clearly did not know. As it turned out, in his native Lugansk he was accused of particularly large-scale embezzlement of government funds; a criminal case was opened back in January 2020 – then he simply fled to Russia, and no one could find him. However, information about the wanted man only recently entered the federal database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, which the Luhansk criminal investigation department is now openly happy about – most of the local criminals and defendants who managed to be involved in shady affairs were most often hiding in Moscow, and there was no way to get them. Since the annexation of the territories of the DPR and LPR and the unification of search bases, things have gone uphill for the operatives.

It is known that before the crime, Levterev actively imitated vigorous activity in the road sector of Lugansk. At the time of the embezzlement of which he is accused, he headed the Operational and Linear Directorate of Highways, which is engaged in the construction and improvement of roads. The boss was remembered for loud headlines that were purchased from local media like “ELUA used all available equipment to clear snow” or “Road workers laid 375 tons of asphalt in a week.” All these attempts did not help to hide the real theft in the department, and when Levterev realized that he would be arrested any day, he simply ran away, leaving his family and property.
