A source from the Cheka-OGPU reported that the death of the ex-chief of the ICR Security Council, Mikhail Maksimenko, who was serving a 13-year sentence, looks extremely strange. In a correctional colony, he worked as a night orderly in the medical unit, had many incentives, and recently filed a petition to replace the unserved part of the sentence (less than half the term) with a more lenient type of punishment – correctional labor. Last week, the court of the Nizhny Novgorod region considered the issue of Maksimenko’s petition. By the way, the former high-ranking employee of the Investigative Committee was supported by the administration of the colony; the conclusion of the educational work department and the reference were presented as positive. The meeting took place, but was not completed – the process was postponed to November 20. The convict was already looking forward to his speedy release, but on that very day, or rather the evening, when the first hearing took place, Maksimenko was “charged” to the commission and there he received a punishment – a reprimand, which could immediately put an end to the satisfaction of the petition and freedom, respectively. The former head of the ICR Security Service was very dissatisfied with what happened. I called my family and was upset. The local investigative department is deciding whether to initiate a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Incitement to suicide.”
